Customer Service- Is the ability to satisfy the wants /
needs of the customer.
Walmart’s ability
to satisfy the populations everyday needs is high, from a market standpoint. The amount of staff employed is usually fair,
enabling questions to be asked / answered without too much hassle. The customer service desk is usually
responsive and refund customers without too much of a headache, besides maybe
an occasional long line.
Corporate Customer Service:
Most corporate enterprises (Walmart, Target, etc.) have
similar resources to obtaining their products, so the competition lays in
cutting edge marketing and responsive customer service. Walmart’s diverse amount of skilled employees
and experienced managers make them a great competitor in the world of
department stores. The Sporting Goods department
usually has someone that knows at least the basics, same with Photo department,
Electronics, Clothing, etc... Some
consider this specialized occupation rather than the older “generalist” careers
people possessed in small business just 20+ years ago. Refunds are usually not much of a problem to a
multi-billion dollar company and it does reflect positively, due to the leniency
of Walmart’s Refund Policy. They are not
concerned with refunding a $1700 Sony LCD Television, if it could mean a bad
online review, a ticked off customer, or a Facebook dislike.
